For all the Dads, Uncles, Godfathers and Grandfathers in our hearts
This page is dedicated to you!
Dads
Before I was myself you made me, me
With love and patience, discipline and tears,
Then bit by bit stepped back to set me free,

Allowing me to sail upon my sea,
Though well within the headlands of your fears.
Before I was myself you made me, me

With dreams enough of what I was to be
And hopes that would be sculpted by the years,
Then bit by bit stepped back to set me free,

Relinquishing your powers gradually
To let me shape myself among my peers.
Before I was myself you made me, me,

And being good and wise, you gracefully
As dancers when the last sweet cadence nears
Bit by bit stepped back to set me free.

For love inspires learning naturally:
The mind assents to what the heart reveres.
And so it was through love you made me, me
By slowly stepping back to set me free.

Walk a little slower, Daddy,
Said a little child so small.
I'm following in your footsteps
And I don't want to fall.
Sometimes your steps are very fast,
Sometimes they are hard to see;
So, walk a little slower, Daddy,
For you are leading me.
Someday when I'm all grown up,
You're what I want to be;
Then I will have a little child
Who'll want to follow me.
And I would want to lead just right,
And know that I was true;
So walk a little slower, Daddy,
For I must follow you.

When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around.
But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much he had learned in seven years.

Godfathers

Each time the world needs an extra touch of love and gentle caring, God creates a Godfather
Godfather, given by God to guard my way and guide my steps

I want you to know how lucky I feel
to have a Godfather like you,
someone who always loves me
no matter what I do.
When I think of you I count my blessings and
thank the Lord above
that I have you for my Godfather because
Godfathers are chosen with love.

Long ago when I was born a choice was made for me,
how could I have ever known what a blessing this would be?
The day that you were chosen, I was blessed from up above,
God sent to me His blessings, when he sent to me your love.
I'm so grateful you have been there to guide me through each year,
you gave me precious memories that I hold very dear.

Uncles
I'm so lucky to have an uncle like you
Without you in my life I don't know what I'd do
When I need you you’re there for me
A better uncle you couldn’t be
The bond we share will always be strong
In my eyes you can do no wrong
You are a Uncle
That truly shines
Bright as a star
In the darkest of times
Knowing you're my Uncle
Makes me so proud
You would stand out
In any crowd
You my dear Uncle
I truly love
You're as bright as the stars
That shine above

Grandfathers
Definition of Grandpa by Bobbie R. Bringold
Having an answer for every question
Understanding more than I ever knew,
Glad to help relieve any form of stress,
Happy no matter what there was to do.
Placing fake bets on silly horse races,
And always with a smile,
Trying so hard to make everyone happy,
Regardless of an extra mile.
Intentions always on the good side,
Careful to always say the right thing,
Knowing more than we'll ever know, but
Maybe he's above us with a pair of wings.
Unlimited love to us he gave,
Living life one day at a time,
Having difficulties to overcome
Oh, if life were as easy as rhyme.
Leaving us wasn't his choice at all
Loving us forever was,
And in our hearts he remains,
Never again to leave us.
Dearest Grandpa, you're always missed and are forever loved.
Grandpa Doesn't Care
My ice cream dripped on his good pants,
but grandpa doesn't care.
his fishing tackle's tangled up,
his rod is who knows where?
I lost his keys in the garage,
I've made a mess out there.
I'm always getting into things,
but grandpa doesn't care.
I help him in the garden cause we're really quite a pair;
I pull the plants out with the weeds,
but grandpa doesn't care.
When I am grown and on my own,
when visits become rare,
I won't forget the love I'd get when
grandpa didn't care.
